Issuing of a licence card for commercial transport by road

Brief description:
The licence card shall be an entry in the national information system attesting that the carrier may carry out commercial transport operations of the type indicated in the entry with the vehicle in question.

There are four types of licence cards:
1. the carriage of goods within the territory of Latvia;
2. international carriage of goods by motor vehicles of a total mass not exceeding 3.5 tonnes;
3. passenger transport by bus in the territory of Latvia;
4. passenger transport by passenger car with a vehicle of category M1 up to four passenger seats in the territory of Latvia (carriage only through a website or mobile application).

In order to obtain a licence card, the carrier must have a special authorisation (licence) in force in a particular road transport mode.

The licence card shall be issued with an entry in the information database of Road Carriers maintained by the Road Transport Directorate without taking a separate written decision.

The issue of a licence card shall be notified and the licence card shall take effect on the day when the information is published on the homepage of the Road Transport Directorate. At the same time, information regarding the issuance of a licence card shall be sent to the e-mail address indicated in the carrier's application.
