Brief description:
In confirming his or her professional qualification, the applicant shall obtain a Riga tourist guide certificate (hereinafter - Certificate), which gives the right to provide information regarding Riga tourism facilities. The certificate of the Riga tourist guide has been open since it was issued.

The certificate may be obtained by the person:
1) the qualification of which is certified by at least one of the following groups of documents:
• accredited higher education programmes which grant a document certifying the qualification, training of a tourist guide or a document issued by a higher education institution regarding the successful learning process of the training programme;
• a document certifying the acquisition of an accredited higher education programme or a document issued by a higher education institution regarding the successful learning process of the training programme, as well as a document certifying the acquisition of a licensed training programme for tourist guides;
2) the knowledge of the language of which shall be certified at the level necessary for the provision of tourist guide services:
• a document certifying the knowledge of the official language (Grade C 1), if it is necessary to certify the proficiency of the official language in accordance with the procedures specified in the regulatory enactments regulating the field of use of the official language;
• a document supporting the knowledge of the foreign language in which the services of the tourist guide are requested (e.g. documents for the settlement of foreign language tests: IN English TOEFL, IELTS, FCE, in French DELF, DALF, TEF, in German DSD, DSH, KDS, IN Spanish, DELE, in Italian, IN the language - personal, knee, as well as other knowledge of a foreign language, the acquisition of a foreign language or the acquisition of education in the relevant foreign language).

In order to receive the Certificate, the applicant shall submit the following documents to the Riga Investment and Tourism Agency:
1) an application (form “Application for the Receiving of the Riga tourist guide certificate”)
2) a description of life (Curriculum Vitae),
3) copies of professional qualifications and skills, as well as documents certifying language knowledge,
4) copies of other documents attesting to the professional activity, professional development and work experience of a tourist guide (for example, a recommendation provided by the industry association of persons).

The submission and the documents attached thereto shall be submitted to the Office of the Riga Tourism Information Centre in Rata slauma 6 or shall send the application and all necessary documents signed by e-signature electronically to the e-mail address: gidi@riga.lv. If documents are submitted electronically to the Riga Investment and Tourism Agency, they shall be prepared in accordance with the regulatory enactments regarding the presentation of electronic documents.

The examination of documents submitted by the applicant is initiated when, in accordance with the requirements of paragraph 11 of the Law Law No 91 of the Riga City Council of 17 December 2013 on the provision of tourist guide services in Riga City, the applicant has covered the costs of examining documents, preparing certificates and issuing documents.
Payment for the service shall be paid in the form of non-cash settlement in the current account of the Riga Investment and Tourism Agency, on the basis of the invoice issued by the Riga Investment and Tourism Agency.

After receipt of the documents and payment, a meeting of the Riga Tourist Guids Certification Commission shall be convened within 30 days, during which a decision regarding the granting of the certificate or the rejection of the application shall be taken.
In the case of a positive decision, a Certificate and a model identification mark shall be produced, which shall inform the recipient of the tourist guide of the service provider and certify the quality of the service.
Regarding the time of receipt of the certificate, each applicant shall be informed individually at the Riga Tourism Information Centre in Raqquma by sending the information to the e-mail address indicated in the questionnaire.
