If a person has acquired education abroad and wishes to continue studies in Latvia, the educational document received abroad (except in Estonia and Lithuania) must be examined in order to determine what Latvian academic degree or educational document it may be assimilated to. Examination of such academic degrees, secondary and higher education documents is performed and a statement thereof is issued by the Academic Information Centre.
On the basis of a statement issued by the Academic Information Centre, the institution of higher education in Latvia shall take a decision regarding the recognition of an academic degree or educational document acquired abroad for the continuation of studies. A statement from the Academic Information Centre may also be requested for other purposes, such as submission to an existing or potential employer in Latvia.
