Brief description:
The child birth benefit is paid to one of the parents permanently residing in Latvia for each child with an assigned personal identity number. The benefit shall also be granted to a guardian if the child has been taken in custody until the age of one year.

The allowance must be requested not later than 6 months from the date of birth of the child or the date of establishment of custody. If this period is overdue, no allowance shall be granted.

In order to claim the benefit, a specific form of application addressed to the SAA must be completed.
May submit a submission:
• on the www.latvija.lv portal;
• on-site (if requested for service, a personal identification document (passport or ID card) must be produced);
• electronically (the application must be signed with a secure electronic signature containing the time stamp);
• by post;
• through the competent foreign authority.

An application may be submitted in person to any VSAA customer service centre, the State and Local Government Unified Customer Service Centres or the Riga City Dzimtsaraksts departments at the time of registration of the birth fact.

The submission shall indicate the preferred method of receiving the decision.
