In order to re-enter the labour market as quickly and successfully as possible, citizens have access to free learning and job-seeking opportunities, career counselling and unemployment benefits.

From the day following the loss of employment, the status of the unemployed person may be obtained. The status of the unemployed will allow you to apply for free education lessons, career counselling and help when looking for a new job. Similarly, a person who has received the status of the unemployed person has the right to unemployment benefit.
The status of unemployed person or job seeker in Latvia is granted by the State Employment Agency (NVA). The status of the unemployed person may be applied for by any resident:

An application addressed electronically to NVA for granting of the status of unemployed person or job seeker may be submitted using the NVA CV and the e-service of the Vacancy Portal “Application for the status of unemployed person or job seeker" or by using the form available in the E-address.
Upon submission of an application, you will be contacted and notified of the decision taken to grant status, as well as the date of arrival in person, so that you will be involved in measures that will facilitate job finding.
In order to create a quality and standard-matching Curriculum Vitae (CV), a uniform set up by the European Commission is available. CV(Europass), which makes it possible to demonstrate not only the information about itself, their work experience and education, but also to describe the various types of skills and competences acquired both in learning and working time, or in the case of low working experience, such as organisational or social skills, which would be useful in the desired workplace. The NVA offers extensive job search capabilities, as well as assistance in the search process. When you win status of unemployed person or job seeker, when addressing the NVA, you will be assisted by the NVA to develop an Individual job search plan which activities you will participate in and which will help make the job search process understandable and reduce the associated stress. In order to help return to the labour market as soon as possible, development has been made NVA CV and Vacancy Portal in which it is possible to register Your CV where it will be available to employers and actively seek suitable vacancies.
Job searches must be described in the job search diary. After every attempt at a job, your experience must be noted in the journal: the vacancy you have applied for, the jobs and the name of the institution. The job search journal shall be issued by the NVA employee. A completed journal must be presented to the NVA employee in person or sent in e-mail.

The module provides recommendations to the job seeker for both research of his knowledge, skills and skills, and useful time planning in job searching, and helps to overcome the stress that may arise in the unemployment situation and in the search for a new job. The learning content includes theoretical explanations, audio and video materials, dialogue simulations and self-checking capabilities.
To allow employers to contact you if there is an appropriate vacancy and to find your information, register your CV in NVA CV and Vacancy Portal and make a note that you want your CV data to be available to your employer. If you want to send your CV to EURES portal make a note that you would like your CV to be available on the EURES portal. Regularly look at job offers in job portals, including NVA CV and Vacancy Portal. If you have a disability and are looking for a job, the State Employment Agency (NVA) may offer additional facilities and services as described above (regarding the granting of disability and expertise, read the National Commission for Health and Health Examiner Doctors website). To find out more about the most appropriate options and support for yourself, do not forget to inform the NVA consultant that you have a disability.
With the support of the NVA, people with limited workability can participate in training which helps to acquire or develop the skills and skills needed for work, to work in the co-financed workplaces co-financed by the State, to use career counselling, to receive assistance in job search, regional mobility support and support for the commencement of commercial or self-employment.

In cooperation with the National Social Inclusion Agency (SIVA), people with disabilities and predictable disabilities are available at determination of professional fitness and professional rehabilitation but people with mental disabilities who work in subsidized jobs are being offered support for a person who will help fit into the working environment and support contacts with the employer, the job manager and colleagues.
Those people with limited workability participating in the NVA training activities may use the help of an ergotherapist and a passing interpreter, but, if necessary, the training site is adapted to the needs of a particular person. If the educational establishment in which the training is carried out is located more than 15 kilometres from the place of residence, the unemployed have the possibility to receive up to €100 in compensation for transport expenses or rental of the residential area.
Who can apply for an unemployment benefit?
The unemployment benefit shall be granted by the State Social Insurance Agency (VSAA).
Unemployed person for whom:
Regardless of the fact that contributions are made, the entitlement to benefits shall also be extended to an unemployed person who has recovered from his or her post-disability capacity or had a disabled child up to 18 years of age. In such a case, the VSAA benefit shall be granted if the applicant has registered with the State Employment Agency and obtained unemployment status within one month of the recovery of work capacity or the achievement of the 18-year-old of a child with disabilities.
Amount of the allowance
The size of the unemployment benefit depends on the total number of years worked and the income generated during the work.

The duration of the receipt of an unemployment benefit shall be 8 months, regardless of the length of service:
In the event of an unemployed person seeking employment to another country of the European Union, the European Economic Area or Switzerland and exporting his or her unemployment benefit, the SAA must submit the form “Maintaining the Rights of the Unemployment Benefit” or complete an e-application.
How to claim a benefit?
